Heatsheets to Sell Limited-Edition Starting Line & Spectator Poncho for Boston Marathon

CHICAGO, IL – April 3, 2015 – After a successful testing of their new starting line warming ponchos and blankets at the 2015 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K in Chicago this March, Chicago-based AFM Heatsheets® – the leading manufacturer of reflective insulation fabrics to keep individuals comfortable in virtually any weather – will be selling a limited-edition Boston Love poncho for use by runners awaiting the start of the race in Athlete’s Village as well as spectators at the 2015 Boston Marathon on April 20, 2015.

Since Heatsheets’s launch at the 1980 New York Marathon, the company has stressed the importance of post-race warming to stave off injury and hypothermia. However, keeping your body and muscles warm prior to the start of the race is getting tougher as pre-race wait times can be notoriously long, sometimes up to four hours. Heatsheets starting line gear serves to help runners stay warm and protected from the elements during this time.

“Many runners rely on thrift store sweatshirts and garbage bags to stay warm in the starting corral,” said Lacie Whyte, Heatsheets Vice President and an avid runner. “These runners have trained for months so we are excited to offer them a solution that prevents them from wasting the first 3 miles of the race warming up.”

The easy-to-wear pullover poncho provides spacious arm holes and a hood to keep runners protected in case of wind or rain. The poncho, decorated with a custom Boston Love logo, features Silver Lining® technology that incorporates NASA-developed technology used by the U.S. Space program. This technology helps runners and spectators retain up to 90 percent of their body heat, even if wet. The reusable poncho is 100 percent recyclable and made from eco-friendly materials sourced in the United States.

“The Heatsheets Boston Poncho can also be used by spectators, kept as a memento, or even used for future races,” continued Whyte.

The Boston starting line poncho is available for sale immediately at https://www.heatsheets.com/bostonponcho. Runners will be able to pick up their Heatsheets Boston Love poncho locally in Boston during the marathon weekend.
